Snoring

snoring and sleep columbus ohio

Snoring is one of the most common sleep disorders that can affect anyone, any age.  Studies estimate that 45% of men and 30% of women snore on a regular basis.  One common misconception about snoring is that “large” men are snorers. Yet a “larger” man has the same chance of snoring as a small, thin woman. However, snoring tends to worsen as people get older and as they gain weight.

When we are asleep, the area at the back of the throat sometimes narrows. We still breathe in the same amount of air as we normally do, but now it is passing through this smaller opening and can cause the tissues surrounding the opening to vibrate, which in turn cause snoring.  Different people who snore have different reasons for the narrowing.  The narrowing can be in the nose, mouth or throat.Snoring is common and even occurs in people who don’t regularly snore after a viral illness, taking some medications or after drinking alcohol.

Snoring can also be a symptom of a more serious sleeping disorder such as sleep apnea.

Lifestyle changes such as losing weight, avoiding alcohol close to bedtime or sleeping on your side, can help stop snoring.  Additionally, medical devices and surgery are options for more serious cases of snoring.

Went in for a consult at the lancaster office almost 2 years ago where the staff took my vitals and then took some baseline readings which lasted 20-30 mins. Turns out that those baseline readings test cost more than the actual overnight sleep study that i ended up taking a couple weeks later, but didn't learn about this fact until i went back in on the 3rd visit for my sleep study results. Was told that i had obstructive sleep apnea and would definitely need to come back in for an additional sleep study to be fitted for a CPAP, but 1st needed to get some financials squared away. That was perfectly fine until i saw a charge for my consultation that cost more than the sleep study. For 20-30 mins and that justifies a $1400 charge, insane! My insurance covered half of this fiasco whereas i only paid copays for each visit, and didn't pay another cent to them beyond that. Seems rather shady to slip some high priced diagnostic test in during the consultation. I would have payed my half of the sleep study, but nothing for the other test. So here i am, roughly 2 years later still with obstructive sleep apnea, still no CPAP, and getting worse. Buyer beware, go elsewhere.

Poor service. If I could give zero stars I would. They don't return phone calls. If you need prescriptions or paperwork completed to obtain your medical equipment, they won't submit correctly, and then will get an attitude with you. They are rude and medically incapable of doing right for the patients.

Can I give no stars? So slow and long wait to get in. Even when there is no one in the waiting room. And they want to have me come in every time I need a new prescription for a controlled substance. This is not due to Ohio laws this is just their policy. I’m sorry but who with a full time job can call off work once a month just to get a refill??? My advice is go to your family doctor to have them refill your prescription every 3 months instead. Don’t go here. I’ve been out of medications due to the fact they don’t answer their phone or they don’t send out the prescription promptly. They informed me last minute I wouldn’t be able to get my prescription because I haven’t seen them in a year. Like wow now I have no medication. Great.
